Ithia oi, Davin DoracOrin, brols int sagathagos ac clainen Dagar thagun ac sagisti ac veinen deshenim...

This I, Davin, son of Orin, prince and historian of the House Dagar, write of the history of our world...

When all things began, the Creator populated our world with the race of men. The Creator also made four beings with a limited share of his power. These beings were intended to be stewards of His creations. The stewards, however, were not immortal. As they neared the end of their lives, they took measures to prevent the Creator's power from being lost. They created the elves, with the hope that this new race could master the use of magic, but the elves proved too weak. They then created the giants, but the giants proved to be far too strong and greatly lacking in wisdom. They created the dwarves, but we too were weak. In the end, one of the stewards realized that just as the stewards were weaker than their Creator, so too would any new race be weaker than the stewards. They resolved to introduce magic into the race of men, this time successfully. To this day, wizards and mages possess that gift of magic given to them so long ago.

But we concern ourselves now with neither men nor elves nor giants. Now is the time to learn of the fourth race--the dwarves--for this is their language.
